A Diversity of Perspectives
Although Michaela enjoys taking individual photos, she particularly enjoys photographic storytelling. Studying ecology, she realized that every story has an infinite number of stories and perspectives. For instance, in a food chain, each member is simultaneously predator and prey, relying on a multitude of biological and physical factors for survival. Similarly, human social interactions are complex networks of influencing and being influenced. Michaela's photography aims to capture those intricacies.

The landscape surrounding the reservoir is unmistakably dominated by humans. To consider the Horsetooth a natural site is to ignore its unnatural beginning and influences. Pioneer species dominate the shores which were disturbed in order to create the reservoir. Although Colorado’s dry climate and difficult soil require pioneer species at some level, the ecological turbulence results in an influx of species like rabbitbrush and cottonwood.
